| First EMAN workshop on optimisation of radiation protection, June 7–9, Vienna | ||
The EMAN (European Medical ALARA Network) Project Group would like to invite you to the first EMAN Workshop, which has been co-organised by the ESR’s Radiation Protection Subcommittee and will take place in Vienna on June 7–9, 2012. The workshop will include the presentation of conclusions and recommendations from the EMAN Project on optimisation of radiation protection, as well as discussion of issues related to the optimisation of radiation protection for patients and workers in the medical sector and the future structure and strategies of the network.

After an extremely successful six years in charge, European Radiology's Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Adrian K. Dixon, has decided to step down from his position. He will continue in the post until 2013, but the search for a successor has already begun.

| European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR) | ||

The third examination for the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR) took place on Monday, March 5, 2012 during the ECR 2012 in Vienna. This new certificate provides radiologists with an objective, ESR-endorsed seal of approval, as well as an additional qualification.
The diploma examination is based on the established ESR European Training Curriculum, successful completion of which will certify a standard of radiological knowledge deemed appropriate by the ESR for independent practice in General Radiology.
Next examinations: May 24, 2012: Granada, Spain; June 30, 2012: Dubrovnik, Croatia.

| Alliance for MRI: revision of EMF Directive under threat | ||
The Alliance for MRI faces a new threat to its plans to have MRI exempted from the European Union Directive on electromagnetic fields. Since the adoption of the European Commission proposal for a new EMF Directive in June 2011, it has become clear from discussions in the Council that a number of member states are opposed to the proposed derogation for MRI from the limit values. The Alliance for MRI has prepared a press release about the new development, which you can read here.
