Akademietheater
The Akademietheater was built from 1911 to 1913, and has been the Burgtheater's second major stage since 1922. After long years of intervention by the theatre's most prominent actors and actresses, who longed for a smaller, more intimate room, the Theatre of the Academy of Music and Performing Arts was affiliated with the Burgtheater. It was ceremoniously opened in 1922 with Goethe's 'Iphigenie auf Tauris'. It is still one of the foremost stages in the German-speaking world, with celebrated and often awarded performances.

Burgtheater
The Burgtheater (the former imperial court theatre), one of the most important theatres in Europe, is the second-oldest theatre still in existence after the Comédie Française. Already in 1741 empress Maria Theresia donated a building at this place to the performing arts. Its first flowering period was in the early 1800s. The present house was erected in 1888. Since then the world-famous and magnificent ensemble has been the most important constant factor of the Burgtheater. The all-German programme includes all the variety of spoken theatre: classics and contemporary pieces, as well as experimental theatre and readings.

Ensembletheater
Initially founded in 1967 as 'Cafétheater', modelled after a famous theatrical form originated in Paris, then for years travelling through various Viennese institutions, the Ensembletheater finally found its home in 1982 at Petersplatz, at a former Jazz club. The opening première was an acclaimed production of Bertolt Brecht's 'Dreigroschenoper (Three Penny Opera)'. During all those years, directors Dieter Haspel and Christine Bauer have been faithful to their original concept of a politically motivated theatre with a programme composed of Austrian premières and contemporary insights into modern classics.

Rabenhof
The Rabenhof theatre is located within residential premises built in the 1920s for the workers of this district. In 1989 the Theater in der Josefstadt took over this former workers' festival hall, which had also been a movie theatre in its colourful past. Since 2001, the Rabenhof has been an independent theatre featuring a distinct programme that with its diversity and its original choice of productions is unique in Vienna's theatrical scene. For this concept, artistic director Thomas Gratzer and his team have been rightly rewarded with the 'Nestroy', Vienna's most important theatre award.

Schauspielhaus
In 1978 the Viennese theatre director Hans Gratzer converted an old cinema into a functional theatre space, and opened it in May 1978 with Jean Genet's 'The Balcony'. Hans Gratzer was both general and artistic director of the theatre, apart from a short interruption, for 20 years until 2001. From 1987 to 1990 George Tabori was artistic director and established his concept of theatre as 'der Kreis' (The Circle). In July 2007 Andreas Beck was established as new artistic director. His programme concentrates on contemporary authors, with whom he searches for present-day stories and topical aesthetics and ways of performing.

stadtTheater walfischgasse
The stadtTheater walfischgasse started in spring 2005 at a place of high theatrical traditions. After being the centre of Viennese political cabaret in the 1950s and 1960s, it became the platform for the young and avant-garde theatre scene in the 1970s. From 1978, it was a stage for international boulevard comedies before the present owner, the former opera and operetta singer Anita Ammersfeld, took over, and presented her concept of the stadtTheater as a new meeting place for culture, with emphasis on musical theatre and political satire.

Theater in der Josefstadt
As early as 1788, the first theatre was built at this site. The building that is today the Theater in der Josefstadt was constructed in 1822 and opened with an overture by Ludwig van Beethoven who conducted it himself. In 1834 a ballroom was attached where Johann Strauss oversaw weekly dances featuring his own music as well as Josef Lanner's. At the beginning of the 20th century, the theatre changed from being mainly a house for operas and operettas into one of Vienna's foremost stages for spoken theatre. The new artistic director Herbert Föttinger aims for contemporary views on modern classics with a focus on Austrian playwrights.

Vienna's English Theatre
Vienna's English Theatre is the oldest English-language theatre in continental Europe. It was founded in 1963 by the Austrian director Franz Schafranek and his American wife, Ruth Brinkmann, an actress and graduate of the Yale University School of Drama. Numerous world and European premières brought distinction to the theatre and enhanced the city's image as a centre of innovative theatre. French productions were first added in 1978, and the Teatro Italiano di Vienna was established in 1985. Over the years, Vienna's English Theatre has become an integral part of Vienna's theatrical life, offering year-round productions of English and American classics, thrillers, comedies and farces as well as contemporary works.
March 3–6, 19:30 The Price by Arthur Miller
One of the author’s most poignant dramas – an inquest into the wounds of family and the nature of human failure. Yet it is also one of his most engrossing and entertaining plays, superbly, even flamboyantly theatrical, where Miller holds the interest with the skill of a born story-teller.
In the attic of a soon-to-be-demolished house, two brothers meet after a 16 year estrangement to dispose of their dead parents’ property. The first is a policeman who sacrificed his career as a scientist to care for his invalid father. The other is an eminent surgeon who walked out on the demands of family to concentrate on medicine and personal success. Their confrontation leads them to examine the events and qualities of their very different lives and the price that each of them has had to pay.

Volkstheater
The Volkstheater was founded in 1889 by prominent Viennese citizens as civil counterpart to the imperial Burgtheater. Being the first theatrical building complying with all the new security regulations following the disastrous theatre fires in Vienna and Nice, the Volkstheater became part of architectural history. In 1980/81 it was restored to its old grandeur from before the war. Until today the theatre clings to its traditional programme of exciting interpretations of the classics, regular new productions of Nestroy's and Raimund's plays, and numerous premières of contemporary dramas. The new director, Michael Schottenberg, and his team support this successful concept with new insights and modern views.
