EC Green Paper on the Workforce for Health
The
EC Green Paper on the EU Workforce for Health was published in December 2008 and deals with the current situation of healthcare workers and the challenges they face.
The Green Paper identifies a certain number of factors likely to have an impact on the working conditions of healthcare professionals (e.g. European demography, rapid evolution of technology, increased mobility of patients and professionals). With this document the EC intends to increase the political visibility of the issues involving healthcare providers and to promote a debate between authorities and stakeholders with the aim to exchange best practice and to improve the conditions for healthcare workers.
The European Commission ran a public consultation on the Green Paper on the European Workforce for Health between 10 December 2008 and 10 April 2009. The first round of consultation evoked 200 responses from relevant stakeholders.
The purpose of this public consultation was to gather the views of Member States and stakeholders on the topics raised in the Green Paper, so as to inform future policy actions in this field.
