Referral Guidelines for Imaging
The European Commission has published a
tender on the revision of its Referral Guidelines for Imaging with a deadline
of submission of July 17, 2009.
The ESR has not submitted a tender for the guidelines proposal because of the strict criteria laid down in the tender document. These were perceived as too strict, both with regard to the magnitude of tasks expected and the funding and timeline indicated.
As the EC has not received any proposals, they have decided to cancel the current procedure and will launch a new call for tenders with improved parameters in 2010.
It is likely that the ESR and other national societies with key expertise in developing guidelines at national level (e.g. UK Royal College of Radiologists, French Society of Radiology) will be approached by the EC to discuss the elaboration and revision of European referral guidelines within an adequate framework.
