Important resources for radiologists regarding COVID-19

Due to a decree, announced by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, indoor events with more than 100 participants are prohibited until April 3, 2020.

The ECR 2020 with its original date from March 11-15 falls under the scope of this ban. In anticipation of this aggravation of the COVID-19 epidemic and related restrictive measures by the Austrian Government, the ECR 2020 was postponed to July 15-19, 2020 on Tuesday, March 3.

Cancellation ESR General Assembly

Due to public order, the ESR General Assembly 2020 scheduled for Sunday, March 15, was called off. Further information will follow in due time.

We have created a page where we collect rebooking and cancellation policy information provided to us by various airlines.

We are currently receiving a great number of emails and are doing our best to reply to each one as soon as possible. However, we ask for your understanding that, under the current circumstances, we will need a bit of your patience to answer your specific questions.

As confirmed in our statement below, ECR 2020 is postponed to July 15–19, 2020 and will be carried out as a fully equivalent replacement at the same venue (Austria Center Vienna, Bruno-Kreisky-Platz 1, 1220 Vienna, Austria).

We understand that this change may lead to a number of questions (your availability, flight and accommodation reservations and similar), and we will be back with a detailed statement addressing these issues as soon as we can.

Thank you for your understanding.

Dear Congress Participant,
Dear Friend,

ECR 2020 is postponed to July 15–19, 2020 – please mark your calendars!

Please note that this postponement is a fully equivalent replacement for the planned event originally scheduled for March 11–15.

It goes without saying that registration fees for the event as well as for the online services will remain in place for the new congress date. Registration to the ECR 2020 remains open.

After careful evaluation of the spreading corona virus epidemic, and considering the recent statements issued by the WHO and the ECDC, and the related evolving world-wide restrictions and crisis, the ESR was forced to make this decision. Above all, we have analysed the recommendations from the Austrian health authorities for large-scale events and came to the conclusion that we are not in a position to fulfil their requirements and guarantee a safe congress for our participants and industry partners at this time. The safety, health and well-being of our delegates and partners will always be the highest priority for the ESR.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to our participants and industry partners for their understanding, continuous support and flexibility. The majority of our industry partners have already expressed their ongoing commitment and are fully on board for ECR 2020 in July.

Please rest assured that in these turbulent and challenging times, the entire ESR and ECR team are doing their best to respond to any query at the earliest possible time and to make ECR 2020 a spectacular and memorable event for all.

We are already looking forward to welcoming you to Vienna in July!

Yours sincerely,

Boris Brkljačić, ESR President

European Society of Radiology

Founded in 2005, by merging the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) and the European Association of Radiology (EAR), the European Society of Radiology (ESR) is an apolitical, non-profit organisation dedicated to strengthening and unifying European radiology.

With 121,608 members across the globe, it has grown to become the largest radiological society in the world and hosts one of the biggest and most innovative scientific meetings in Europe, the European Congress of Radiology, in Vienna each year.

The Society works closely with national radiological societies across Europe and further afield, while establishing relationships with major international organisations from other related fields. It also monitors developments on the EU level which could have an impact on research and practice in radiology, with the best interests of the patient as its overriding goal.

The mission of the European Society of Radiology is to serve the healthcare needs of the general public by supporting scientific research, education and training while constantly striving to improve the quality of radiological practice.
