Vienna, Austria – January 17, 2025 – The European Society of Radiology (ESR) is thrilled to announce a milestone achievement for ECR 2025, as the late-breaking abstract submission period concludes representing an all-time high in ECR history. This year’s congress has seen a remarkable total of 1,240 late-breaking abstracts submitted, bringing the overall submission count for ECR 2025 to almost 10,000 abstracts.
The total number of 9871 abstracts marks a 13% increase from last year’s total abstract submission numbers. It is an all-time high, with a rise of 786 abstracts (plus 8%) compared to our previous record year of ECR 2020.
The late-breaking abstract submission phase, introduced several years ago, allows researchers to showcase their most recent discoveries and provides an additional opportunity for those who were unable to submit during the initial autumn submission period. This ensures that ECR 2025 will once again feature some of the most cutting-edge and impactful research in radiology.
Submissions have poured in from across the world, with participation spanning 112 countries. Noteworthy growth has been observed from countries such as China and Romania while the largest number of submissions overall came from Italy followed by India, China, United Kingdom and Spain.
Commenting on this achievement, ECR 2025 Congress President Prof. Andrea Rockall shared, “The record-breaking engagement this year reflects the radiology community’s commitment to addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time. Under the theme of ‘Planet Radiology,’ which emphasises planetary health, sustainability, and global health equity, I feel these submissions demonstrate a collective determination to innovate and collaborate in ways that extend beyond medicine and resonate globally. I look forward to witnessing the impactful research that will shape both our field and our planet’s future.”
The overwhelming response to the call for abstracts underlines ECR’s enduring reputation as a premier platform for sharing groundbreaking research and fostering collaboration. It also reaffirms its pivotal role in shaping the future of radiology and medical imaging.
Submitters of late-breaking abstracts will be notified of the acceptance status in the coming weeks.
