An opportunity seized! More than 1,160 abstracts received in second submission round for ECR 2023

January 25, 2023, Vienna – The European Society of Radiology is pleased to announce that it has received a total of 1,164 new abstracts for ECR 2023. This represents a 9% increase in comparison to the late-breaking abstract submission period held for ECR 2022. Despite having a far shorter period between congresses this year, due to ECR 2022 being held in July, as well as having abstract submission periods that were half as long in duration, abstract submission figures this year represent only a 2% reduction in comparison to ECR 2022.

The new opportunity to submit a poster abstract for ECR 2023 was offered by the society from December 22 to January 22, providing a second chance to those whose work was not ready during the original submission period, as well as offering a new presentation prospect to those who had new research that they wished to share at the upcoming congress, which will take place from March 1-5. Abstract submission provides a unique opportunity for medical imaging professionals to present their cases and research at Europe’s most prestigious congress in radiology. The submissions from this second submission round bring the total number of abstracts for the upcoming congress up to 7,800.

ESR President and Congress President for ECR 2023 Prof. Adrian Brady was pleased with the results, stating, “The world of medical imaging research is an extremely fast-paced one where imaging technology and techniques are constantly being adapted. By offering a second submission period closer to the congress, we ensure that ECR 2023 will contain the most cutting-edge science from our ever-changing profession. I am pleased that so many took the renewed opportunity to share their work with us and be a part of our esteemed annual meeting”.

The highest number of submissions came from Italy with a total of 153 abstracts received. This was followed by Spain and the United Kingdom with 106 and 93 abstracts respectively. Decisions regarding the abstracts which have been submitted will be sent to submitters in the coming weeks.

Registration for ECR 2023 is now closed.
