Sir Peter Mansfield (1933 - 2017)
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Sir Peter Mansfield, the Nobel Prize winning physicist and MRI pioneer, at the age of 83. One of the most recognised names in radiology, Sir Peter was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2003 for his research which led to the development of MRI. His scientific contributions changed the face of medical imaging and he will always be remembered with great affection by the entire radiological community.
In 1995 he was ECR Honorary Lecturer and received the ECR gold medal for his exceptional achievements in radiology.
The University of Nottingham, where he spent the majority of his career has set up a book of condolence.
