From October 26-28, 2017, an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Regional Workshop on Justification and Appropriate Use of Imaging will be held in Zagreb, Croatia.
Led by the IAEA's Radiation Protection of Patients Unit, hosted by ESR 2nd Vice-President Prof. Boris Brkljačić and co-organised by the ESR, the workshop will be attended by IAEA, World Health Organization (WHO) and ESR experts as well as 45 delegates from 20 European IAEA member states, with each country nominating radiologists and representatives of national competent authorities. The ESR encouraged its national institutional member societies from all eligible countries to nominate participants via their designated national contact points.
The workshop will focus on all aspects of justification, including level 2 (generic) and level 3 (individual), with a special focus on imaging referral guidelines and clinical decision support (CDS). In addition to Prof. Boris Brkljačić, Prof. Valentin Sinitsyn, president of the Russian Society of Radiology and member of the ESR working group on imaging referral guidelines, will represent the ESR, and talks will include the ESR's work on guidelines and CDS as well as the role of clinical audit.
