The ESR is getting ready for its participation in the IAEA International Conference on Radiation Protection in Medicine in Vienna, 11-15 December. As a cooperating organisation of the conference, the ESR has the opportunity to present its radiation protection activities with a focus on the EuroSafe Imaging campaign.
EuroSafe Imaging translated the 2012 IAEA-WHO Bonn Call for Action into a European perspective, focusing on developing guidance and practical tools to support ESR members with the implementation of the European Basic Safety Standards Directive (2013/59/Euratom). In addition, the ESR will highlight its leading role in facilitating and convening radiological quality and safety campaigns across the globe.
On the occasion of the IAEA International Conference on Radiation Protection in Medicine in Vienna, and as part of its activities to drive acceptance and adoption of the ESR’s imaging referral guidelines, the ESR is pleased to announce the launch of a new ESR iGuide portal by ECR 2018.
The new portal tool will be an important part of the ESR's efforts to support implementing the justification requirements in the EU BSS Directive (2013/59). This web-based solution, developed in cooperation with National Decision Support Company (NDSC), will ensure widespread availability and increase the use of imaging referral guidelines, and facilitate regulatory compliance. The ESR iGuide portal provides public access to the ESR’s imaging referral guidelines, which will be free of charge for ESR radiologist members world-wide. EuroSafe Imaging will continue to play a key role in disseminating the ESR’s imaging referral guidelines and in encouraging their uptake.
In partnership with the American College of Radiology and NDSC Europe, the ESR launched ESR iGuide in March 2016 as a clinical decision support (CDS) environment for the ESR’s imaging referral guidelines. CDS pilot projects are being implemented in Europe and the Middle East, and the new web portal will be offered as an additional tool to increase guideline availability.
