February 2016

Wednesday, February 24, 2016 (ESR, Vienna) – The ESR is proud to be celebrating 25 years of European Radiology. Founded in 1991 by Professor Josef Lissner, European Radiology publishes original articles and state-of-the-art reviews by leading radiologists worldwide. Following Prof. Albert L. Baert and Prof. Adrian K. Dixon, Prof. Maximilian F. Reiser, Director of the Institute for Clinical Radiology at the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, Germany, is now embarking on his third year as Editor-in-Chief of the leading European journal in its field.

With an Impact Factor of 4.014 for 2014, European Radiology is currently ranked 14 out of 125 general radiological journals in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging category.

In a recent editorial, Prof. Reiser states that “The focus of European Radiology lies with original articles, reviews, special reports and technical developments. The aim is to present current developments of the highest scientific level while considering the potential impact on clinical applications at the same time. […]There is a rapid rate of technical and methodological innovation in radiology and associated sciences. This evolution continues to present a challenge for the scientific community and needs to be continuously evaluated in order to adapt it properly for the best possible service to patients.”

The fast-paced development in radiology is reflected in the ever-growing number of submissions to European Radiology. The journal has seen increasing submissions yearly since its inception and an increase of 14% in the past year alone. It has also received more than 400,000 full-text downloads in 2015 according to the journal’s publisher Springer.

To honour the hard work of the journal’s reviewers, this year, for the first time, European Radiology will be presenting a ‘Reviewer of the Year’ award to the top five reviewers at the annual Editorial Board meeting, which will be held at ECR 2016 on Friday March 4.
