In recognition of his tremendous contribution to the development of radiology in Latin America, Professor Federico G. Lubinus from Bucamaranga, Colombia, will receive ESR Honorary Membership at ECR 2019.

Professor Federico G. Lubinus is full professor of radiology and director of the radiology residency programme at the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga (UNAB) in Colombia.
Prof. Lubinus trained as a medical student, and in parallel worked as a CT technician and an English teacher. He graduated from medical school at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) in Bucaramanga in 1993. In 1997, he obtained a masters’ degree in university teaching from UNAB, where he also completed his radiology residency in 2000. Prof. Lubinus was the first radiologist to graduate from the newly established radiology programme and was subsequently appointed staff radiologist at Carlos Ardila Lulle Hospital. A few years later, he was appointed associate professor of radiology and director of the residency programme at UNAB.
In 2006 Prof. Lubinus earned a scholarship from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in the ‘Teach the teachers’ programme in ultrasound, which was run by Prof. Barry Goldberg at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Prof. Lubinus has been very active in implementing radiology in Colombia and has held a number of roles within the Asociación Colombiana de Radiología (ACR), where he served on the scientific, quality, and educational committees, as well as the board of directors. He was also elected president of ACR for two terms in 2014–2015 and in 2015–2016. Prof. Lubinus is now the coordinator of ACR’s scientific committee and heads the Latin American Educational Forum, which brings together the most prestigious radiological societies of Latin America, with a commitment to addressing educational issues in the region.
Prof. Lubinus is a member of several national and international societies of radiology, including the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the RSNA and the American College of Radiology (ACR). He received meritorious recertification from the ACR in 2010 and 2015.
Prof. Lubinus has been appointed academic peer for the National Accreditation Council of Colombia and has been the tutor for more than 20 theses in radiology and diagnostic imaging.
His main areas of research are Doppler ultrasound, renal transplant rejection, erectile dysfunction and thyroid cancer. He has won numerous awards for his research papers presented at the Colombian Congress of Radiology in the field of ultrasound.
At ECR 2019, Professor Federico G. Lubinus will be presented with Honorary Membership of the European Society of Radiology.
