In recognition of his outstanding work in cardiac imaging and the advancement of radiology in Russia and Europe, Professor Valentin Sinitsyn from Moscow, Russia, will be awarded the ESR Gold Medal at ECR 2019.

Professor Valentin Sinitsyn is chair of radiology and head of the Radiology Department at the medical faculty of Moscow Lomonosov State University, Moscow.
Born in 1961 in Elizovo, Russia, he graduated from Sechenov Medical University in Moscow in 1984. He completed his radiology residency in 1998 in the Radiology Department of the Cardiology Research Centre, Moscow and started working as a researcher and radiologist at the same institution.
Prof. Sinitsyn is one of the pioneers in the field of magnetic resonance imaging and cardiac radiology in Russia. His research interests have focused on cardiac imaging, abdominal radiology, oncology, hybrid imaging, contrast media, teleradiology and computer applications in radiology.
Prof. Sinitsyn is president of the Russian Society of Radiology for the term 2016–2020. He is past president of the European Society of Cardiac Radiology (ESCR) and also served as president of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in 2014. He was a member of the ECR cardiac subcommittee and programme planning committee between 2006 and 2014.
 

Prof. Sinitsyn holds membership of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, International Society of Radiology, ESCR, European Society of Gastrointestinal Abdominal Radiology, and the Serbian and Belorussian societies of radiology.
He has authored or co-authored 154 papers, which are all cited in the Scopus database, and has delivered over 300 lectures in Europe and overseas.
Prof. Sinitsyn greatly contributed to the implementation of international standards of teaching and training in radiology in Russia. He has organised the translation and promotion of BI-RADS in Russia, as well as textbooks on magnetic resonance, emergency radiology and cardiac imaging.
At ECR 2019, Professor Valentin Sinitsyn will be presented with the Gold Medal of the European Society of Radiology.
