With more than 5,800 registrations from 140 countries for live streaming and 230 attendees onsite, the European Society of Radiology’s (ESR) event, ‘Intelligence. Innovation. Imaging – The perfect vision of AI’, highlighted the importance that artificial intelligence (AI) is playing for radiologists around the world. The event, which took place in Barcelona on April 5-6, featured more than 20 lectures and over 28 speakers from a variety of professional backgrounds and turned out to be a stunning success for the ESR and the European School of Radiology (ESOR).
Highlights of the event included a keynote speech by world-renowned AI expert, Toby Walsh, a session in which companies could demonstrate their AI technology in different imaging scenarios, and a stimulating panel discussion in which participants touched on important issues surrounding the application of deep and machine learning and AI in the radiological field.
The AI event, which was exclusively sponsored by Siemens Healthineers, sought to build on the work done by the ESR, the European Society for Hybrid, Molecular and Translational Imaging (ESHIMT) and the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in making educational events accessible to a wider audience through online streaming. In October 2018, ESHIMT organised its first completely online meeting, the Conference on Hybrid Imaging Live (CHILI), whilst the ECR Online platform continues to provide over 4,000 recorded lectures from ECR 2019 free and on demand. This year’s ECR also saw the launch of ESR Connect, where a diverse range of video content can be streamed, including interviews, presentations and highlights of numerous ESR and ECR events.
Chairman of the ESR Board of Directors, Prof. Lorenzo Derchi, highlighted the growing importance of offering online participation at events such as this. ‘As our world has become more globally connected, the opportunities to offer education to a wider audience have grown significantly. The success of our AI event this week proves that there is real demand for these services. The ESR is striving to expand its online offerings through a range of initiatives, with the ultimate aim of spreading knowledge and improving our profession globally’.
The ESR would like to thank all those who attended the event, either physically or virtually, for making this huge success possible.
