Monday, September 13, 2021 - The European Society of Radiology is readying itself to welcome attendees from around the world back to Vienna in 2022 for the first onsite ECR since 2019. With the recent opening of registration and with just a few weeks left until its abstract submission deadline, the society is offering numerous ways to take part in the congress, taking place on March 2-6, 2022.
"The theme of ECR 2022 will be ‘Building Bridges’ and with this I am encouraging our field to diversify and adapt its approach to healthcare, in order to improve the patient outcome”, stated ESR President, Prof. Regina Beets-Tan. “Next year’s congress is all about finding common ground and sharing scientific developments with clinicians, global healthcare stakeholders and industry leaders. Highlights will include exclusive series, such as the Patients in Focus programme, and plenary lectures on a variety of exciting topics, not previously touched upon at ECR. I encourage everyone who wants to take part in our big return to Vienna and an onsite experience, to submit an abstract and register for ECR 2022 as soon as possible”.
The ECR 2022 Preliminary Programme is now available for participants to begin planning their ultimate congress experience.
A unique new concept for industry partners
ECR 2022 will also revolutionise the role of its most valued industry partners, offering increased integration within the congress programme and a greater presence within the Austria Center.
These partners will be offered the opportunity to amplify their interactions with congress attendees, gaining an exclusive chance to create their own programmes and take advantage of new innovative ways to connect with clients and those interested in their products and services. In this way, the ‘Building Bridges’ theme can also be embraced by companies who also have an important role to play in improving patient care.
ECR 2022 will also see the debut of its SMART (Scientific, Multidisciplinary, Advanced, Responsible, Tailored) concept which will strive to create a meeting fuelled by the latest technology, revolutionising the modern medical meeting. The entire congress is being restructured and nothing will be the same as it was before.
This will include creating improved experiences for online attendees who are unable to join the congress in person. Unlike traditional meetings which only stream scientific content, ECR 2022 will bring the entire atmosphere of Europe’s largest congress in radiology to viewers around the world, streaming content both inside and outside of the lecture hall and capturing not only the state-of-the-art science but also the unique feeling of the meeting – no matter where or with what device they are experiencing it from.
“Responsible also means that in order to avoid the spread of Covid-19 and to guarantee a safe congress for our participants and industry partners, the ESR will strictly follow the rules stated at the time as issued by the Austrian authorities. The safety, health and well-being of our delegates and partners will always be our highest priority. The whole ESR team is working continuously on making ECR 2022 a blueprint for safe congresses during these challenging times”, said the ESR President.
Supporting the next generation
Over the last 19 years the ESR has invited more than 11,000 young residents in radiology and radiographers in training to the European Congress of Radiology, investing more than € 6,800,000 in its flagship youth project.
For ECR 2022 the ESR will once again give 1,000 young colleagues from all over the world the chance to participate for free in its annual meeting through it’s ‘Invest in the Youth’ programme.
With the ‘Shape your Skills’ programme the ESR is also supporting radiographers in their professional career by giving the free registration to 100 professionals.
Both the Invest in the Youth and Shape Your Skills support programmes are also open until October 10 to young radiologists and/or radiographers who submit an abstract and are ESR members in full standing. In addition the ESR is also rewarding successful candidates with 1,000 free hotel nights.
How to participate
To take part in ECR 2022 as a poster, oral or student presenter, participants have until October 10, 2021 to submit an abstract through the ESR webpage.
General registration for ECR 2022 is open and those who register before October 13 will be able to take advantage of the Opening Fee - the lowest priced ticket opportunity for the congress available.
The ECR is the annual meeting of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), which represents more than 121,000 members worldwide, the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS) and the European Society for Hybrid, Molecular and Translational Imaging (ESHIMT). The ECR is one of the largest medical congresses in the world, attracting more than 28,000 congress participants. With 300 companies exhibiting across more than 25,000m², its exhibition is also one of the largest medical exhibitions in Europe.
