Abstract submission is open from September 14 to October 25, 2022. 

Submission System

All abstracts have to be submitted online through www.myESR.org/abstractsubmission.

Abstract Type

For ECR 2023, there will be again one abstract type. During the submission process, you will be able to choose your preferred presentation format. Please see the respective sections below for further details:

  • Oral Presentation
  • Poster Presentation (educational/scientific)
  • Student Presentation 

Abstract language and editing

All abstracts have to be submitted in English. Please make sure that your abstract is appropriately structured and checked for English spelling and grammar. By following all instructions, you ensure that our language and editing standards are met, thereby making your abstract reader-friendly.

If you wish to edit or withdraw your abstract after submission, please contact the abstract submission team at [email protected].

Submitter/Presenter

The abstract has to be submitted by the presenting author. The presenter will receive all notifications and is responsible for the poster upload and/or the oral presentation. 

Duplicate submissions

It is not allowed to submit the same abstract to more than one abstract type. The submission of duplicate abstracts will lead to the immediate rejection of the abstract(s) involved. 

Case Reports

Case reports will not be accepted. We recommend submitting case reports to the ESR's teaching case platform EURORAD at www.eurorad.org

Decision Notifications

Decision notifications (acceptance or rejection, final presentation format) will be sent by email to the presenter in December 2022.

Invitations for oral presentations must be confirmed by the presenter within the timeframe indicated in the notification letter.

During the submission process, abstract presenters can apply for one of the available support programmes: "Invest in the Youth" for radiologists in training and "Shape your Skills" for radiographers (radiological technologists).

Reduced registration fees

A reduced registration fee of EUR 350,- is available for all oral and poster presenters, who are ESR members and whose membership was in good standing by August 31, 2022.

Important information: This offer will only be available if registration is finalised by January 6, 2023. It only applies to the presenting author (no first or other authors) and is not transferable. Please make sure to use the account with the same Personal ID for registration that you used to submit your abstracts.

Please note that the ESR will not refund any registration fees once the registration and payment have been completed, including in cases of subsequent ticket changes or membership-related changes.

Reporting Guidelines

When preparing abstracts for ECR 2023, please make sure to use the most appropriate reporting guidelines for your work. Compliance with reporting guidelines will have a positive impact on rating scores.

Oral Presentations

Presentation formats

Oral presentation abstracts will be considered for two different session types:

  • Research presentation sessions, allowing a classic oral presentation of 6 minutes followed by 2 minutes of discussion
  • Clinical Trials in Radiology (CTiR) sessions, dedicated to ongoing or recently finished multicentre trials that are likely to impact clinical practice in the
    The following studies are eligible:
    (a) Multicenter studies of any design (can be submitted with their study design, baseline data, or results)
    (b) Single-center studies (only if randomised and results available)

Final presentation formats are decided by the Programme Planning Committee and will be communicated together with the decision notification.

Poster Presentations (EPOS™)

General information

EPOS™ is the ESR's Electronic Presentation Online System for scientific and educational posters.

Posters submitted for ECR will be part of the scientific exhibition at the congress and can also be published permanently on the EPOS™ online viewing platform. Find more information at www.myESR.org/epos.

Presentation formats

Scientific Posters can be submitted for standard scientific studies. Educational posters can be submitted for educational descriptions, e.g. of a particular condition or procedure, or a series of cases.

Poster submissions include:

  • EPOS™ for Radiologists (standard scientific studies, educational descriptions)
  • EPOS™ for Radiographers (Radiological Technologists)
  • EuroSafe Imaging (Note: poster abstracts submitted with the keyword "Radioprotection" will be reviewed for the EuroSafe poster category)

Final presentation formats are decided by the Programme Planning Committee and will be communicated together with the decision notification.

Posters at ECR 2023

Invitations for the poster upload for accepted abstracts will be sent out in December 2022.

The presenting author has to register for the congress, in order to have the poster published during the congress and/or permanently published.

After the congress, it is possible to choose a permanent publication of the poster on www.myESR.org/epos.

All accepted posters are presented electronically in EPOS™ (no paper printouts).

Student Presentations

Student sessions will take place as part of the student programme of the congress - www.myesr.org/youngECR.

Frequently Asked Questions

Submission steps

  • It is recommended that authors prepare their abstracts in advance using any standard word processing system and then copy and paste the elements into the appropriate spaces in the submission system.
  • Please do not include references, acknowledgements, graphics, tables or figures in your abstract
  • The text should be submitted using standard Latin

Enter the title for your abstract. Titles should be all lower case except for the first letter of the title, acronyms, proper names and after colons. Do not use a full stop at the end of the title. Please spell out any Greek or scientific characters (e.g. beta). Keep titles as long as necessary but as short as possible. Company and trade names, special symbols or characters are not allowed in the title.

Select an informative topic for your abstract. Abstract review and session assignment will be based on the topic.

Choose your preferred presentation format (Oral Presentation, Poster Presentation or Student Presentation).

Apply for one of the available support programmes: "Invest in the Youth" for radiologists in training and "Shape your Skills" for radiographers (radiological technologists). Find more information at www.myESR.org/supportprogrammes.

Add authors to your abstract. To avoid duplicate entries, you have to search before you are allowed to create a new person entry. The abstract has to be submitted by the presenting author.

A maximum of 9 authors can be listed. For Clinical Trials, more than 9 authors are allowed; in case of acceptance, additional authors can be added after the notification. Only authors who contributed to the work should be listed; gift authorship is not allowed. Note that the system requires contact information (incl. email address) for each author.

Please indicate potential conflicts of interest for all authors and outline all relationships (remunerated or not) with pharmaceutical companies, biomedical device manufacturers or other corporations whose products or services may be related to the subject matter.

Enter the abstract text by typing or copying and pasting plain text from a prepared document. The first four abstract sections apply to all abstracts. Limitations, Ethics committee approval and Funding only have to be used if applicable (otherwise, write 'Not applicable' in those abstract body fields).

Word limit
The body of the abstract should summarise the subject in a maximum of 280 words.

Publication
Abstracts of accepted Research Presentations, Clinical Trials in Radiology and Student presentations will be published in the Book of Abstracts in Insights into Imaging after the congress. Note that posters submitted for ECR can also be published permanently on the EPOS™ online viewing platform, and are therefore not part of the Book of Abstracts. 

Multicategories
Select the appropriate keywords from each column in the drop-down menu. This selection will help indexing your subsequent presentation/poster online. You can choose up to 3 keywords per column; one keyword in each category is mandatory.

Affirmations
Confirm all mandatory affirmations.

Submit
Finalise your submission by leaving the editing view with the bottom left corner Back to Overview. Review your abstract once more through Preview (and submit) before submitting your abstract with the Submit abstract button.
