Young Audit Prize
The Young Audit Prize is an initiative by the ESR to promote clinical audit awareness and excellence among young radiologists. The prize recognises outstanding clinical audit projects conducted by young radiologists and highlights the essential role of audit in improving patient safety, quality of care, and professional practice. This project highlights the value of audit in radiological practice and provides a platform for showcasing outstanding work at ECR 2027.
Clinical audit is a key aspect of ensuring patient safety and quality of care in Radiology. It can be defined as “improving the quality of patient care by looking at current practice and modifying where necessary.” [1]
Developed by the ESR Audit & Standards Subcommittee, the Young Audit Prize aims to celebrate excellence in clinical audit among young radiologists. With this prize, the ESR aims to raise awareness among young radiologists of the importance of audit in clinical practice and to promote AUDITRAD as a tool for its development and implementation.
The Young Audit Prize consists of two parts: (1) an application, (2) an oral presentation of the audit.
The submission deadline for the Young Audit Prize is December 18, 2026.

Five finalists will be selected to present their audits during a dedicated Young Audit Prize session at ECR 2027 before an expert jury and international audience.
The winner of the Young Audit Prize will be selected based on the quality of the submitted audit (application) and their presentation.

- A certificate of achievement
All finalists will receive a certificate of participation.
Valid congress registration is mandatory to present your audit during the congress.
Residents under 35
All presenting residents under the age of 35 will receive free congress registration and accommodation support of EUR 300,-. Please see the detailed criteria below.
- Applicants must be under the age of 35.
- Age limits apply to the time of the congress; this means that the applicants’ 36th must be after March 7, 2027.
- The applicant must be an active member of the ESR in good standing for the calendar year 2026.
- Applicants must upload the required proofs* when completing the online application form

Radiologists under 40 & Residents between 35 and 40
All presenting fully trained radiologists under 40 and residents between the age of 35 and 40 will receive a reduced registration fee of EUR 400,- is available for all finalists of the Young Audit Prize who are ESR members in good standing by August 31, 2026. Finalists without ESR 2026 membership (or membership settled after the deadline) can still register for ECR 2027 for the Opening Fee.
Important information:
- The Presenter Member ticket will be available after the decision notification email is sent in January 2027.
- This offer will only be available if registration is finalised by February 5, 2027, and only applies to the presenting author.
- Each finalist receives one reduced registration ticket and once the reduced registration payment is completed, the ticket is not transferrable.
Please note that the ESR will not refund any previously paid registration fees, including in cases of special offers, subsequent ticket changes or membership-related changes.

All applications will undergo evaluation, where six applications will be selected to present their audit on-site at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2027.
When preparing your submission, we would like to emphasise the following points:
- It must be a clinical audit.
- Your Audit must have clear standards; it should not be research in nature or a service evaluation. For ideas, we suggest having a look at AUDITRAD.
- It must be your own original work and not published elsewhere.
- You should include the results and outcome of the conducted audit, as well as actions where targets were not met, and if you conducted a re-audit.
Applications demonstrating completion of the audit cycle, including implementation of improvement measures and re-audit where feasible, will be viewed particularly favourably.
To apply for the Young Audit Prize, all applicants must meet the requirements of the ESR’s definition of a young radiologist:
“The European Society of Radiology (ESR) defines a Young Radiologist as a person under 40, or a radiological trainee, or a radiologist who completed their training within the past 5 years.
The 5-year period can be extended to allow for periods when the radiologist was not working because of, but not limited to, caring and/or parental responsibilities, disability, personal illness, community obligations or national service”
