Are you a radiologist, researcher, or clinical expert with an interest in policy, innovation, or evidence-based evaluation? The European Society of Radiology (ESR) is looking for ESR members from the EU27, EEA countries as well as UK interested in acting as expert volunteers to help ensure that medical imaging is fully and effectively represented in the implementation of the EU Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Regulation.
The European Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Regulation, which became fully applicable as of 12 January 2025, introduces a harmonised EU-wide framework for evaluating the clinical effectiveness, safety, and economic impact of new health technologies through Joint Clinical Assessments (JCAs). The HTA regulation will have a direct impact on radiology, one of the most innovative, fast-evolving and technology-driven medical specialties. The HTA Regulation will influence which new technologies are deemed valuable enough for adoption and reimbursement, based not only on their clinical benefit, but also on their economic, societal, and ethical impact.
Radiologists must therefore be at the table: to provide domain expertise on how these technologies are used in clinical workflows, how they influence patient pathways, and how they interact with broader healthcare systems.
We are calling for volunteer ESR members from the EU27, EEA countries as well as UK to help ensure that radiology is fully represented as the HTA Regulation enters its implementation phase. You can contribute by:
- Supporting ESR’s advocacy to include radiologists in assessment processes
- Raising awareness within the radiology community about the importance of HTA
- Contributing to ESR statements, feedback papers, and stakeholder engagement on HTA policy developments relevant to imaging
The ESR participates in the European Commission HTA Stakeholder Network, and joined the BioMed Alliance HTA taskforce to closely monitor regulatory developments and provide structured input from the imaging community, in the interest of value-based care, and effective innovation.
If you’re passionate about the future of imaging and want to help shape how new technologies are evaluated and adopted in Europe, we want to hear from you.
To express your interest in joining the ESR HTA Expert Group, please contact us at [email protected]. Please include a brief statement outlining your motivation, the expertise you bring, and any relevant experience or interest in health policy, technology assessment, or imaging innovation.
