After an eventful autumn season, I am pleased to welcome you back for this early winter edition of our newsletter. As another successful year is slowly coming to an end, it is my pleasure to provide you with all the news about the ESR’s latest undertakings and accomplishments.
We have just arrived back from our ESR Annual Leadership Meeting in Barcelona, which brings together the European leaders in radiology, amongst them representatives of our national, subspecialty and allied sciences member societies, totalling more than 140 participants. The success of this year’s meeting just goes to show that the Annual Leadership Meeting has grown to become an integral part of the strong relationship between the ESR and its member societies. Topics this year were selected by taking into account proposals from our member societies and addressed burning issues including the value of the radiologist in the digital environment, patient relations, the involvement of radiologists in the management of clinical trials, hybrid imaging, and the movement of radiologists in view of Brexit. At this point, I would like to thank all the speakers for their valuable contributions and presentations of their society’s points of view, which provided the grounds for engaging discussions and a lively exchange of ideas. As the ESR is dedicated to intensifying relations with related disciplines, the Board of Directors met the EFRS (European Federation of Radiographer Societies) leadership one day before the Annual Leadership Meeting. I am particularly happy to announce that a new Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the ESR and the EFRS, which will be valid for the next three years, to focus resources and efforts on topics of mutual interest. As you will have noticed from the preliminary programme for the ECR 2017, the ESR took very special care this year to offer sessions specifically targeted to radiographers and will even provide simultaneous translation into German, Italian, Polish and Spanish.
Not only is the ESR actively reaching out to other professional societies, but it also attaches great importance to strengthening its ties with its Institutional and Associate Institutional Member Societies. During the last two months, the ESR has been officially represented at the National Romanian Radio-Imaging Conference, the Balkan Congress of Radiology, the Congress of the Russian Society of Radiology, and the congress of the Austrian Röntgen Society, as well as the Hellenic Congress of Radiology and the Journées Francophones de Radiologie, where ESR President Prof. Parizel received honorary membership of both societies.
On another note, I am proud to announce that the ESR now has a new website! Over the past few weeks, the ESR has been particularly hard at work to give its internet appearance a redesign and thus make it even more user-friendly and responsive to our visitors. If you have not yet had a chance to look at the result, you can now check out the new website at www.myESR.org.
As always, it is of particular importance to me to point out that we appreciate any question, comment or suggestion you might have, so please feel free to send an email to our editorial team at workeditor@myESR.org. You can also find us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or the ESR blog.
To conclude this last issue of ESR@Work for 2016, I would like to wish you the very best for a pleasurable remainder of this year, a happy holiday season and a most successful start into the New Year 2017.
Prof.Dr. Katrine Riklund
Chairperson of the ESR Board of Directors
