ESR and COCIR renew Letter of Intent

The ESR and the European Coordination Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical and Healthcare IT Industry (COCIR) are pleased to announce that we have formalised our cooperation for the next two years by renewing a Letter of Intent (LoI). The LoI was first signed on 25 June, 2013 and renewed on the 10 February, 2023 and promotes constant collaboration and exchange between the ESR and COCIR.

ESR welcomes adoption of new EU Council Recommendation on strengthening prevention through early detection: A new EU approach on cancer screening

The ESR applauds the inclusion of lung, prostate, gastric cancers based on latest scientific evidence in the new cancer screening recommendations, which were adopted on 9th December, and looks forward to working with other European health stakeholders on their implementation.

The ESR fully supports the European Cancer Organisations open letter on cancer screening

The European Cancer Organisation (ECO) has published an open letter to EU and national level decision-makers following significant last-minute weakening of the proposals for Council Recommendations on Cancer Screening that undermine scientific advice. 

The ESR shares the concern of the European cancer community at these highly concerning developments and fully endorse ECO’s open letter and its suggested actions. The EU Council Recommendations on cancer screening must be protected.

Unlocking the potential of artificial intelligence in cancer care

On 27 May, the European Parliament Special Committee on Beating Cancer is holding a public hearing on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in cancer care. This hearing will cover AI in cancer research, cancer care and personalised cancer medicine and issues related to data protection, with 8 leading experts in the field and the European Commission.

On 23 September 2020, the European Cancer Organisation released a new flagship initiative aimed at empowering European citizens and cancer patients with ten key overarching rights.
