The European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research are thrilled to announce the launch of the ESR Research Seed Grant Global Programme’s 2025 call for proposals – a unique funding opportunity to advance the future of radiology across Europe, Central Asia, and Africa.

The primary objective of the ESR Research Seed Grant Global Programme is to nurture and support inventive projects and pilot studies, which will ultimately evolve into larger, more comprehensive research initiatives.
The 2025 thematic focus is Sustainability in Radiology:
Thematic Priorities Include:
- Green Radiology: Lowering the carbon footprint of imaging equipment, digital transformation, waste reduction, and sustainable contrast media
- Cost-effective Imaging: Value-based approaches, protocol optimization, standardization, and quality assurance
- Workforce Sustainability: Professional development, education, workflow automation, and retention strategies
Funding Amount: €14,000 per project with a funding period of up to 24 months. Up to 3 seed grants will be awarded in 2025.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the ESR Research Seed Grants Global 2025, please ensure that you meet the following requirements:
- You are a researcher working in a radiology department in a European, Central Asian, or African country.
- You are a member of the European Society of Radiology.
- Your proposed project has not received funding from another grant or is part of another ongoing project application.
- Seed projects typically have a single Principal Investigator (PI) but collaboration with contributors is encouraged.
- Your project must be supported by your direct supervisor or department head.
- Each applicant is eligible for one seed grant per cycle.
Key Dates:
- Application Deadline: June 15, 2025 (11:59 am CEST)
- Outcome Notifications: End July 2025
- Grant Award & Project Presentations at ECR 2026: March 4–8, 2026
- Funding Period: October 1, 2025 – September 30, 2027
