From September 28 to October 4, 2026, the European Commission will hold the first-ever EU Screening Week, bringing Europe-wide attention to preventive healthcare, screening and early detection.
Screening and early detection are central to radiology—from breast and lung cancer screening to cardiovascular imaging. EU Screening Week offers an important opportunity for the radiology community to highlight the value of imaging-based screening programmes, raise awareness of the radiologist’s role in early diagnosis, and contribute to the wider European prevention agenda.
We encourage the radiology community across Europe to get involved.
You can take part by:
- Organising or promoting a screening-related activity between September 28 and October 4, such as a public awareness event, open day, educational campaign, or initiative highlighting an existing screening programme.
- Registering your activity by September 20, 2026 on the European Commission’s dedicated platform, so it can be included on the Europe-wide activity map.
- Using the official EU Screening Week campaign materials, including visual identity, templates and social media resources, which are expected to be released soon.
- Sharing your activities and initiatives with the ESR to help showcase the contribution of radiology to prevention and early detection across Europe.
EU Screening Week also coincides with World Heart Day on September 29 and connects with the EU’s broader cardiovascular health and prevention efforts, including the Safe Hearts Plan.
