November 19, 2024 – Vienna, Austria – The European Congress of Radiology 2025 is set to hold an inspiring programme that will put global health equity and sustainability on centre-stage at next year’s congress. “Imagers Fixing the World”, next year’s In Focus programme, will shine a light on innovative and impactful initiatives and research from imaging professionals as they address issues related to planetary health. Inspired by the renowned BBC podcast People Fixing the World, the programme will feature leaders and visionaries working to underline medical imaging’s critical role in some of the most pressing global health and environmental issues of our time.
Coordinated by consultant radiologist Dr. Sarah Sheard and ECR 2025 Congress President Prof. Andrea Rockall, “Imagers Fixing the World” brings together an extraordinary lineup of experts whose work exemplifies the potential of radiology to expand access to care, leverage cutting-edge technology for underserved communities, and reduce environmental impact. Attendees can look forward to sessions that range from the revolutionary potential of AI in democratizing healthcare access, to the development of sustainable practices that reduce radiology’s carbon footprint, to empowering teleservices in regions with limited medical infrastructure.
A full version of the programme is available in the recently published ECR 2025 programme here.
Highlighting the programme’s alignment with this year’s ECR 2025 theme “Planet Radiology”, Prof. Rockall, stated “ECR 2025 will not only look at how radiology is impacting the ecological health of our planet, but also how it is affecting public health across the globe. As society works towards the provision of equitable healthcare on a global scale, Imagers Fixing the World is a powerful reminder that radiology has a critical role to play in advancing the well-being of people and planet.”
Whilst some speakers were identified and invited by the programme coordinators, others were invited after their projects were successfully selected during the Share Your Story campaign. During this campaign, which ran this summer, the ESR received more than 230 submissions from 72 countries. Submitters of the most inspiring and impactful stories have been invited to talk about their work in health equity, sustainability and artificial intelligence in three Ask Me Anything sessions – a new interactive session format that will debut at ECR 2025.
The In Focus programme will have its own dedicated lounge offering attendees an immersive experience where they will have the opportunity to learn more about progressive radiology projects around the world.
Registration for ECR 2025 is now open. You can register for the early fee now until December 17 here.
