Vienna, Austria – October 17, 2024 – The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has reported a noteworthy milestone in the lead-up to the 2025 European Congress of Radiology (ECR), with an impressive 8,562 abstracts submitted during the initial phase. This figure represents a remarkable 12% increase from the previous year’s submissions, signalling a growing global engagement in Europe’s flagship radiology event.
The abstracts submitted span an expansive range of expertise, with contributions arriving from 111 countries, ten more than last year, showcasing a rich diversity of perspectives. Beyond radiologists, contributors include radiographers, medical physicists, and professionals from other intersecting medical fields. The highest numbers of submissions came from China, Italy, India, Spain, and Germany, highlighting the event’s broad international reach. Of particular note was the 55% increase in abstract submissions from the United Kingdom, the home country of ECR 2025’s Congress President Prof. Andrea Rockall.
Additionally, applications for the ECR’s Support Programmes saw a significant boost, with 3459 abstracts received for Invest in the Youth, an increase of 8%, and 435 abstracts received for Shape Your Skills, a spectacular increase of 83%.
Commenting on these early results, Prof. Rockall expressed deep appreciation for the enthusiasm driving these submissions. “The outpouring of abstracts is inspiring, reflecting the strong anticipation for the topics we will cover at ECR 2025 under the theme of Planet Radiology. This collective input not only enriches our congress academically but also ensures a dynamic, culturally rich exchange of knowledge. With a second submission window ahead, we are on track for what might become a historic level of contributions,” she noted.
For those who missed the initial abstract phase, a late-breaking submission window will be available from December 18, 2024, to January 13, 2025, offering a final chance to participate in shaping the congress content.
With abstract submissions underway, the ESR’s preparations for ECR 2025 are in full swing. The congress is poised to offer a transformative experience under the theme of “Planet Radiology” focusing on the concept of planetary health and how it can be viewed through the unique lens of medical imaging.
This theme affirms ECR’s dedication to advancing radiology, sustainability and health equity across the world by bringing together clinicians, industry experts, healthcare leaders, and patients for a productive and unforgettable meeting.
Registration for ECR 2025 is currently open, with reduced fees available until November 6. You can register here.
