Report of the 1st Programme Planning Committee Meeting in Vienna/AT

The ECR 2017 has not even started, yet a preliminary educational programme for ECR 2018 has already been drafted.

In other words, the first working group meeting of the Programme Planning Committee (PPC) for 2018 in Vienna on December 9 was a real success.

As a prelude, Prof. Hamm, the chairperson and ESR 1st Vice President, hosted a welcome dinner. It was held at Vestibül Restaurant, in the beautiful historic Burgtheater building, on the eve of the meeting, for those who had already arrived. It gave the new team the opportunity to get acquainted in an informal setting and the “old-timers” to catch up.

The next morning, the PPC got together in good spirit for a very productive day. The new E³ - ECR Academies’ programmes have been presented and the original 227 excellent topic proposals for New Horizons Sessions, State of the Art Symposia and Special Focus Sessions, submitted by the Chairpersons of the Scientific Subcommittees, were the perfect groundwork for a fruitful meeting. It goes without saying that a wide geographical distribution as well as gender-balance amongst the chosen session moderators were taken into account.

We thank the members of the PPC for their attendance, their active participation, the fruitful discussions and their input and are looking forward to future meetings in 2017!
