Vienna, Austria – January 9, 2026 – The European Society of Radiology (ESR) is pleased to announce the conclusion of its Late Breaking Abstract Submission period for the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2026, marking another milestone year for the congress. A total of 1,634 additional abstracts were submitted during the late-breaking phase, bringing the overall number of abstracts submitted for ECR 2026 to 11,376. This represents a 15% increase compared with ECR 2025 and establishes a new all-time record in the history of the congress with submissions received from across the globe.
“The exceptional number of abstracts submitted for ECR 2026 reflects the remarkable vitality and global engagement of the radiology community”, stated Congress President Prof. Minerva Becker. “The continued growth we have seen, culminating in a new all-time record this year, demonstrates not only the scientific strength of our field but also its willingness to share knowledge across borders. I very much look forward to welcoming the community to Vienna and to the inspiring research that will shape the future of our discipline.”
The Late Breaking Abstract Submission period offers researchers an additional opportunity to present their scientific research at Europe’s largest radiology congress and ensuring that the ECR scientific programme continues to reflect the latest advances and emerging topics in radiology.
The exceptional response to both the main and late-breaking abstract calls underlines the ECR’s position as one of the world’s leading platforms for the presentation of cutting-edge research in radiology and medical imaging. With a record number of submissions, ECR 2026 promises a dynamic and forward-looking scientific programme.
ECR 2026 will take place under the congress theme “Rays of Knowledge”, celebrating the role of education in radiology as a driving force in advancing medical understanding, innovation, and patient care. The programme will showcase how radiological education illuminates new pathways in diagnosis, therapy, and research, fostering collaboration across disciplines and borders while shaping the future of healthcare.
Submitters of late-breaking abstracts will be informed of their acceptance status in the coming weeks.
