by Andrea Rockall
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
With great pleasure, I would like to introduce you to the scientific and educational programme for the European Congress of Radiology 2025.
With the theme “Planet Radiology”, ECR 2025 will take the concept of planetary health and explore its key parts, including global sustainability, healthcare equity, and scientific innovation. The immense programme we have developed will use these topics as a foundation to create a truly one-of-a-kind experience for congress attendees.
As climate impacts grow, radiologists are positioned to be leaders in adopting greener practices and sustainable healthcare models. As such, you can expect educational sessions dedicated to this critical issue. These are supported by a number of green initiatives we have implemented at ECR 2025 including the offer of discounted rail travel to reduce attendees’ carbon footprints.
Beyond sustainability, “Planet Radiology” also encompasses the topic of equitable global healthcare access. Through our In Focus programme, “Imagers Fixing the World”, we will spotlight and celebrate many people and projects that are advancing global health equity and planetary sustainability for the future. From providing teleservices in conflict zones and bringing ultrasound to the remotest regions, to harnessing the power of AI and driving radiology’s green transition, this programme promises to be a uniquely inspirational, educational and motivational experience for congress attendees with a diverse range of speakers from across the healthcare spectrum.
Advancements in science and innovation will also play an important role of “Planet Radiology”, as we explore how developments in AI and data science can enhance patient care and support a healthier planet. Our AI Theatre and Exhibition will make a bold return to ECR, with a huge scientific and industry-driven programme dedicated to this rapidly expanding field of radiology. Additionally, we are pleased to announce the debut of Pixel Pandemonium, a brand-new platform which will connect the rapidly evolving AI/ML research community and showcase cutting-edge technology that is still in development, whilst offering participants the opportunity to receive early-stage feedback and explore practical applications in radiology. We also welcome the return of the Cube, where the latest progress in the world of interventional radiology can be witnessed first-hand with educational sessions, workshops and an exhibition to enjoy.
To encourage more discussion and debates at ECR 2025, we will introduce a brand-new session format – Ask Me Anything sessions. These highly interactive sessions will cover a range of topics, giving attendees a chance to ask invited speakers first-hand about their projects and research.
Of course, any ECR would not be complete without the inclusion of its most traditional and beloved session formats. You can look forward to our Image Interpretation Quizzes, New Horizons Sessions, Open Forums, Master Classes and much more. Hands-on workshops will also make a return with many opportunities for interactive learning.
And you will be treated to three exceptional Plenary Lectures that will offer extraordinary perspectives on radiology, healthcare and beyond.
Additionally, we will learn how radiology is practiced in our ESR Meets countries – Morocco, Brazil, UK and the Baltic Countries in four insightful sessions.
Expect to find exhilaration and inspiration at this year’s Opening Ceremony – “Wonder”. With beautiful performances and incredible visual spectacles spread out over four unique acts, attendees will have an unforgettable experience as they are transported to every corner of Planet Radiology. And, I will have the pleasure of awarding Gold Medals to some of the most accomplished radiologists in our field.
Of course, the ECR isn’t just an event for radiologists – it’s a vibrant gathering for a diverse group of professionals from multiple disciplines. The ECR is the official meeting of the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS) and I look forward to warmly welcoming our colleagues from radiography, along with friends from other allied sciences on this journey of exploration and collaboration.
Our goal is to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to experience “Planet Radiology”, no matter their location. Embracing the adaptability ECR has shown in recent years, we remain committed to providing a top-tier experience for all participants, both in person and online. Expect to find the vast majority of our programme available to view live and on-demand from anywhere in the world.
In conclusion, I want to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who has worked and continues to work so tirelessly in making ECR 2025 a reality. The dedication and passion of so many, often behind the scenes, has shaped this congress into something truly special. Thank you for your invaluable contributions.
I greatly look forward to welcoming you to Vienna, where we will explore “Planet Radiology” together.
Warm regards,
Prof. Andrea Rockall,
ECR 2025 President

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the European Congress of Radiology 2025, a congress that promises to be a landmark event for radiographers and radiological technologists from across Europe and beyond.
As President of the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS), I’m delighted to introduce a robust and diverse programme tailored to the needs of our profession.
This year’s theme, Planet Radiology, resonates deeply with the principles of sustainability, innovation, and equity—principles that underpin the invaluable contributions of radiographers in healthcare. The EFRS sessions will explore a wide array of topics, from advanced imaging techniques to professional development, and sustainability in radiography practice. These sessions not only celebrate the accomplishments of radiographers but also highlight critical areas of research, education, and practice that are shaping the future of our profession.
Interdisciplinary collaboration is at the heart of this year’s programme. Joint sessions with radiologists, physicists, and other allied health professionals will delve into cutting-edge developments such as artificial intelligence, dose optimization, and hybrid imaging. These sessions provide a unique opportunity to engage with experts from different disciplines, fostering a holistic approach to patient care.
Furthermore, the EFRS Meets session, dedicated to showcasing the contributions of our member societies, will emphasize the vital role radiographers play in advancing healthcare delivery worldwide. This year’s focus on the United Kingdom will spotlight their innovations and best practices, offering valuable insights to attendees.
I’m particularly proud of the opportunities provided for our younger colleagues, with sessions tailored for students and early-career professionals. These initiatives ensure that the next generation of radiographers is well-equipped to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
I invite you to immerse yourself in this inspiring programme, designed to educate, engage, and empower our vibrant community. Together, let us celebrate our shared commitment to excellence in radiography and envision a sustainable and equitable future for our profession.
Warm regards,
Patrizia Cornacchione
President, European Federation of Radiographer Societies
