MEMBERSHIPS TERMS & CONDITIONS
GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP OF THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY OF RADIOLOGY (ESR) IN 2024
- Membership Approval
Members of all categories (with the exception of Honorary Members) shall be accepted by the Finance and Internal Affairs Committee and confirmed by the Executive Council. Membership shall be conferred upon new members upon confirmation by the Executive Council.
Membership may be refused without explanation.
- Membership Types
The Society shall have the following individual types of members:
- Full Membership
- Radiologists
Active radiologists residing within the boundaries of Europe as determined by the Executive Council.
Full radiologist members in good standing have the right to vote in the General Assembly and to stand for office.
- Professionals of Allied Sciences
Professionals of allied sciences including radiographers/radiological technologists, nuclear medicine physicians, medical physicists, and data scientists residing within the boundaries of Europe as determined by the Executive Council.
Full allied sciences members in good standing will have the right to vote in the General Assembly but may not stand for office.
- Radiologists
- Membership in Training
- Radiology Residents
European radiologists in training who are registered on a formal training programme officially recognised by an institutional national member society.
Radiologists in training have the right to participate but not to vote at the General Assembly.
- Professionals of allied sciences in training
European professionals of allied sciences in training registered on a formal training programme with activities at least in part related to radiology or an allied discipline.
Professionals of allied sciences in training are not entitled to participate or vote at the General Assembly.
- Radiology Residents
- Corresponding Membership
Radiologists and radiology residents or professionals of allied sciences engaged in practice, teaching or research residing outside Europe.
Corresponding members are not entitled to participate or vote at the General Assembly. ESR corresponding membership is renewed automatically unless cancelled by the member. To cancel your corresponding membership, please write an email to [email protected].
- Honorary Membership
Those who are nominated by the Executive Council in recognition of their exceptional contribution to radiology and ratified by the General Assembly. Honorary Members nominated by the Executive Council are subject to ratification by the General Assembly. Honorary Members previously appointed by ECR and/or EAR will be ESR honorary members.
Honorary Members shall not be subject to membership fees. Honorary members shall have the right of participation in but no voting rights at the General Assembly.
- Associate Membership
Individual qualified professionals with an interest in radiology and medical imaging who do not fulfil individual or all requirements for any other ESR membership category.
Associate members are not entitled to participate or vote at the General Assembly.
- Retired Membership
Former Full members who have retired from all clinical practice. This membership type can only be allocated by the ESR Office.
Retired Members have the right to participate but not vote at the General Assembly.

- Membership Application Procedure
Each new member must be approved by the Finance and Internal Affairs Committee and the Executive Council. Therefore, prospective members are asked to provide proof of profession. A proof template is available during membership application. Membership is not valid until it has been officially approved. The ESR Executive Council reserves the right to refuse membership without explanation.
Upon application, each individual acknowledges that their membership application may be refused by the Finance and Internal Affairs Committee and the Executive Council, even upon payment of the membership fee.
The payment of a membership fee does not automatically entitle the applicant to active membership.
Membership is valid for one calendar year upon receipt of payment and/or approval by the Finance and Internal Affairs Committee and the Executive Council.
- Termination of Membership:
Membership shall be terminated by:- The loss of legal personality in the case of legal persons or partnerships having legal capacity or the loss of the representative status of persons;
- Resignation, which shall only be possible as per December 31st of every calendar The Finance and Internal Affairs Committee has to be notified in writing at least three months in advance. In case of late notification, resignation shall become effective only as of the next withdrawal date. The postmark shall be decisive for the date of notification;
- Expulsion, which may be decided by the Executive Council and approved by the General Assembly on serious grounds, such as behaviour harming the

- Rights and Duties of the Individual Members of the Society
Full Members shall be entitled to attend all events of the Society and to make appropriate use of its facilities subject to the due payment of all relevant fees. Only Full Members who have paid their membership fee for the current year and their accumulated arrears (‘Full Members in good standing’) shall have a vote at elections and at the General Assembly. Only full Radiologists Members can be nominated and stand for an office of the Society.
Members are obliged to further the interests of the Society to the best of their abilities and to refrain from any action which could harm the reputation and the objectives of the Society.They are to observe the Statutes of the Society and the resolutions of its executive organs.
- Application Deadline ESR membership in 2024
The membership application system for ESR 2024 membership will be open until November 30, 2024. However, the benefit of member registration rates at ECR 2025 will only be available for members who have completed their membership application before August 31, 2024.
Membership applications made after this date will not affect the registration fees for ECR 2025.
- Membership type and registration fees for ECR
The appropriate ECR registration fee is determined by the membership type selected during membership application. If the individual should wish to change membership type, the ESR Membership Department reserves the right to request documents necessary for justifying the change. Based on the documentation provided, the final decision is made by the Finance and Internal Affairs Committee and the Executive Council. However, a change in membership type does not necessarily entitle the member to a refund, or partial refund of registration fees for the congress.
Paid and approved ESR 2024 membership entitles the member to reduced member registration fees for ECR 2025 if the application has been completed before August 31, 2024. As stated under section 6 (Application Deadline ESR membership in 2024) membership applications made after August 31, 2024 will not affect the registration fees for ECR 2025.
- Reimbursement of Membership Fees
Membership fees will not be reimbursed after termination of membership as online services are accessible for every member from the date of membership fee payment. Furthermore, membership fees will not be reimbursed in case of double payments or free membership via National Radiological Societies.
- European Radiology
All ESR members in good standing have free and unlimited access to the online version of European Radiology, the official journal of ESR.
All ESR members agree that ESR shall be entitled to pass on personal data to the publisher Springer (or a related Springer company) in order to provide ESR members with monthly e- mail services announcing upcoming issues of the journals European Radiology, ER Experimental and Insights into Imaging (so-called table of content, TOC, alerts).
